BAM Nutall / Arup - Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme

Customer Case Study: BAM Nutall / Arup – Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme

Client: Arup  Main Contractor: BAM Nutall Construction

Client Brief:

To create an aesthetically pleasing and discrete flood protection solution to replace a shop front looking on to the river. The flood protection depth must exceed current British standard and achieve flood protection to a depth of 1500mm high.

The largest opening was 8 meters wide and consisted of windows and double doors. All of which much be flood resistant. Any system will be in a high traffic environment and must be in keeping with the original shop front design and colour.

Proposal:

To engineer a hardwood, aluminium composite frame coloured to match the existing environment, that will withstand the pressures of water up to 1500mm high. A truly bespoke solution will need to be created and tested at our in-house testing facility and witnessed by a third party.

The remaining windows and doors along the riverside would also use a similar technology to create a flood protection solution with minimal impact to the overall aesthetics of the building.
