We are pleased to announce the Buffalo Flood Barrier has been succesfully installed in a range of locations in Hong Kong and Macau. The geographical location, annual rainfall and urbanisation result in a Hong Kong becoming more at risk of flooding than ever before.
Hong Kong and Macau has been hit with a number of high profile typhoons in recent years, with Typhoon Mangkhut the latest in September 2018 affecting the area. Large areas were left without power, including the famous casino strip in Macau, and the storm surge was recorded at 2.01m in 2018, the second highest on record.
A power plant in Mui Wo, located on Lantau Island Hong Kong, required robust flood protection to a 2m flood level, and the Buffalo HD Flood Barrier was designed to suit the needs. The flood barrier was designed and manufactured in the UK and installed by our local distributor. Our designers in the UK worked with the local team to design the flood barriers to exceed local standards, and create a bespoke solution to ensure the power plant is not affected by future typhoons and floods.
The system involved flood barriers for single single and double doors, as well low level air vents. All flood protection was designed to 2m high. The flood barriers are quick to deploy but in normal conditions can the power plant can function as normal with minimal intrusion from the flood protection.
The Buffalo Flood Barrier allows for a flexible flood protection solution, and can be manufactured to any width or height with the use of demountable posts. The flood barrier panels are removeable, ensuring the doors can open normally when flood conditions are not acceptable. The flood barrier can be powder coated to any RAL colour.
