This classic footage makes for an interesting watch as we see how devastating flooding that hit Kent and Sussex in 1960 was reported.

Backed by dramatic and menacing music the narrator describes how only those who have experienced flooding and have had the ground floor of their home feet deep in water know how ‘utterly wretched” it can be. The footage ends with a typically British and polite apology for any further rainfall that might happen.

Thankfully, today it is possible to dramatically reduce this ‘utterly wretched’ feeling by installing domestic flood defences that feature cutting edge material and design and are backed by quality accreditations such as the BSI Kitemark.
